Company background

Dating back to the late 1960s, the founder of Sunkee Envelopes Limited (“SunKee”), Mr Au Moon, started his apprenticeship with a local envelope manufacturer in British Hong Kong. Back then, one’s craftsmanship was much valued in the machine-free era. Since all envelopes were hand-made, the skills level certainly determined the quality of the final products. Although the salary was meagre and the working hours were extensive, Mr Au’s hard-work paid off by mastering all the techniques required. During the few years of apprenticeship, customers gradually recognised Mr Au’s refined quality of work, which gained him his popularity and high reputation. Upon Mr Au’s completion of his apprenticeship, he founded Sunkee in 1975 and began its journey as a leading envelope and manila folder manufacturer in Hong Kong.

Followed by the opening up policy of China in the 1980s, Sunkee set its milestone in successfully industrializing the business in modern manners. Through purchasing new equipment, it transformed from handmade production to semi-automatic machinery production. Followed by the founder’s retirement, Mr Au Cheuk Wing of the second generation took over the business and successfully expanded the corporation. With over four decades of dedication, Sunkee is now aligned with working towards the goal of becoming a world-renowned manufacturer.

Our Speciality

As an envelope manufacturer, SunKee provides two types of envelope sealing, namely “Gummed”* and “Peel & Seal”**. As our strength, we are capable to produce premium Peel & Seal envelopes at high efficiency.

In fact, SunKee is one of the few manufacturers in China that owns fully automated equipment. When producing Peel & Seal envelopes, our advanced machines manufacture 800 envelopes per minute (in comparison to semi-automated equipment that produces 250 to 300 envelopes per minute). This equipment enables us to handle large quantity orders with short lead times.

*Gummed = water is needed to activate the flap gum before sealing the envelope
**Peel & Seal = envelopes that have a removable strip to provide a quick, clean seal upon contact without moistening

Service Guarantee

In terms of the service guarantee, delivering premium products on time is at the heart of our business. With an average lead time of 30 days after an order is placed, we are determined to assist our customers as they cope with promptly responding to ever-changing market demands. Internally, SunKee has obtained the ISO 9001 (2015 standard) and the BSCI international qualifications. Our strict operating procedures and quality assurance are in place to guarantee that consistency and accuracy meet clients’ expectations.

In our pursuit of establishing a long-term collaborative relationship, we pledge to strictly observe contractual provisions and to fulfil our responsibilities. Should emergencies or unexpected events take place, we strive to provide solutions in an open manner.

Sustainability

As a manufacturer, sustainability is deeply rooted in our core values. For us, this notion is not just a buzzword. SunKee embraces the three pillars of sustainability – “Social”, “Economic” and “Environmental”. Rather than seeking to maximise profits, our vision is to create a long-lasting business model that benefits all stakeholders. Thus, while minimising the impacts that production has on the environment, we have been investing in our employees, from managers to frontline workers.

Factory Operations

As a manufacturer, keeping the factory running smoothly is crucial when it comes to delivering products on time. To guarantee sustainable production, SunKee has been in compliance with domestic pollution regulations and policies, which has allowed us to obtain the Certificate of Pollutant Discharge from the Guangdong government.

To meet its environmental requirements, the factory has installed air purification equipment to minimise its pollutant levels. To responsibly manage the chemical waste generated, our facility includes clearly-labelled storage areas for collection, while third-party companies are hired to handle the waste.

Employee training and instruction is provided to ensure the safe equipment operation. To prevent any occupational injuries, suitable equipment (e.g. mask / earplug / gloves) is provided at all times. To improve employees’ emergency preparedness, two fire drills and a toxic substance leakage drill are scheduled each year.
People

Staff members are our greatest asset and are the main resource that keeps daily operations running smoothly and that boosts productivity. In order to take good care of the employees, we have safety as our basic requirement, one which is always of the highest priority. We take pride in the fact that the measurements made during factory operations demonstrate that there have been no major injuries. All workers are insured in accordance with China’s “Fund for Five Social Insurance Benefits ”, while a body check is conducted annually.

Beyond ensuring safety, we are committed to providing reasonable working hours, overtime pay and ample paid annual leave. At the factory, there is a staff canteen that provides free meals. For non-local workers, accommodations are provided next to the production site. BSCI accreditation has been the results of our efforts.

In pursuit of a healthy work-life balance, a wide range of staff activities are regularly organised. Other than the monthly birthday parties, there are gatherings and prize draws throughout the year. Occasionally, we arrange company trips to foster better bonding and understanding among the employees.

Lastly, we are eager to equip our employees with knowledge and assist them to achieve personal growth. To offer promising career prospects, internal promotions are welcomed on both the production line and in the office. Through training sessions, many of our production leaders, technicians and managers are trained in-house.
Products

During production, the consumption of a large amount of paper is inevitable. Thus, in order to preserve the natural environment and to promote sustainable forestry, SunKee chooses certified papers as our raw materials.

According to our strict sets of standards, we guarantee that our envelopes are produced in a truly environmentally and socially responsible way throughout our supply chain. In addition to the raw paper supply, other raw materials (such as glue & OPS film) are all selected from sustainable sources.

Other than using raw materials from sustainable sources, recycling the paper waste during the production can also help to minimise environmental impacts. Thus, our factory has a recycling system that classifies different paper types. After compressing the papers into blocks, it is sent to paper manufacturers for recycling.

Certifications

Obtaining approvals from government and third-party organizations is of paramount importance. In pursuit of our vision of long-term sustainable production, we are proud to have obtained all production permits and certificates from the corresponding parties.

Beyond simply fulfilling the legal requirements for daily operations, SunKee always seeks to go the extra mile to earn credibility from international organisations. In addition to using certified materials, we are recognised by the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) for our quality management.
